A blue and white “Kraak” dish with flower and bird decoration – Late Ming Dynasty

Decorated in underglaze blue, with a foliate rim and decorated to the centre with a two birds below leafy stems of lotus flowers. The cavetto is further decorated with panels of stylised peach stems and precious objects.

 

Period: Ming Dynasty, Wanli-Tianqi, early 17th Century

Size: Diameter 28.3 cm, height 5 cm

Condition: Good condition, wear and firing impurities, sand adhesion and fritting to the rim which is typical on these dishes. The base is slightly convex, reaching further down than the footring. This makes the dish wobbly.
