A Ganzhou black glazed tea bowl with white rim – Northern Song Dynasty
Covered in a black/brown glaze with a white glazed rim, base and lower outside body unglazed. This bowl was probably produced in Ganzhou, Jiangxi. Similar bowls were also made at the Jizhou kilns.
Period: Norhtern Song dynasty (960-1127 AD)
Size: Height 4.9 cm, diameter 10.3 cm
Condition: Good condition, wear consistent with age and use, hairline crack to the rim approximately 2.5 cm long (see pictures), kiln grit in the well.

References: A very similar bowl was found in a tomb in Ji'an, Jiangxi. The bowl was inscribed with "Yuanayou First Year" (1086). It is illustrated in “Dated ceramics of Song, Liao, and Jin Periods”, LIUTAO, Cultural Relics Publishing House, Beijing, 2004, pl. 8-6.
