A Ming blue and white barbed rim Qilin dish – Interregnum period
With a distinctive barbed rim and elegantly fluted inner walls, decorated with a Qilin looking to quarter moon. Borders decorated with flowers and simplified clouds with compartments of Buddhist symbols. The painting on this example is particularly detailed compared to other dishes of this type.
Period: Ming Dynasty, Interregnum period – 1436-1464
Size: Diameter 19.5 cm
Condition: Good condition, wear and firing flaws, two small hairlines to the rim 10 and 15 mm long, glaze shows signs of burial/sea water.
Provenance: Swedish private collection assembled in the 1960s. The collector worked as a diplomat in Asia at the time.
