A Longquan celadon carved dish – Yuan/Ming Dynasty

Of deep form, the center is moulded with a flowering peony, surrounded by a carved/combed wave pattern. The cavetto is freely carved with foliate motifs. The underside is plain. The dish is totally covered in a sea-green glaze save for a ring on the base fired orange.

 

Period: Yuan - Ming dynasty 14th-15th century

Size: Diameter 34.7 cm

Condition: wear and firing flaws, slightly warped in firing, footring with chip
