A Cizhou white bowl – Five Dynasties – Northern Song
With rounded sides rising from a short straight foot to an incurved rim with pie-crust edge, the inside and upper part of the outside is covered in a transparent glaze with fine crackles over a white slip. There are three spur marks in the well. These bowls were fired at many kilns and there are several excavated examples from both Xing and Ding kilns, dated from Tang to Northern Song. This example was possibly fired in one of the many Cizhou kilns in Cixian area, Hebei.

Size: Diameter 13 cm, height 5.5 cm
Condition: Minor surface scratches and pitting here and there, chips to the “pie crust” rim in three places
