A Yue celadon carved box and cover – Northern Song Dynasty
Of circular form raised on a high, splayed foot. The center of the cover is carved with a foliate medallion within triple lines and further encircled by delicately incised sprigs along the rim. It is covered overall with a semi-translucent olive-green glaze. The cover has a slightly darker green hue compared to the body. There are traces of a kiln support on the base.
Period: Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127)
Size: Diameter 13.5 cm
Condition: Good condition, wear, crazing, slightly chipped (see photos)
Provenance: From South German private collection, collected since the 1960s
