A blue and white conical cup – Transitional Period
The cup stands on a broad foot ring with straight everted sides, decorated in underglaze blue. Inside it is decorated with an apocryphal four-character Yongle reign mark, but surrounding this and repeated around the inner rim is a border of spirals with simple five-petalled flowers and with chrysanthemums. Outside, the painting consists of a scholar seated in a garden beside a pile of books, attended by two servants.
Period: Tianqi/Chongzhen (1635-1650)
Size: Diameter 10.1 cm, height 4.6 cm
Condition: Very good condition, minor wear and firing flaws, no cracks or repairs found under UV-light.
