A large carved Qingbai ‘Boys’ bowl – Song Dynasty
The Bowl is thinly potted with slightly rounded sides rising from a slightly tapered foot to an everted rim. The interior is freely incised and combed with two boys playing among peonies. It is totally covered in a pale greenish blue glaze with the centre of the base left unglazed. It was most probably made in a Jingdezhen kiln. Bowls of this type were produced in Jingdezhen from late Northern Song to late Southern Song.
Period: Song Dynasty, 12th Century
Size: Diameter 21.4 cm, height 7.5 cm
Condition: Very good condition, light wear, a 7x4 mm chip to the outside rim (see last picture), a small chip to the inside of the footring, no cracks or repairs found under UV-light.
Provenance: From an old Bavarian private collection, collected since the 1960s.
