A large Longquan celadon bowl with incised and moulded design – Yuan Dynasty
The bowl has rounded sides rising from a straight foot and a slightly flared rim. There is a carved lotus pattern on the lower part of the outside and on the inner wall. Just below the rim, on the outside, there are carved parallel lines intersected by slanting lines. The center is decorated with a moulded chrysanthemum flower. It is totally covered in a sea-green celadon glaze, except for the base where the clay is visible. The high pitch reveals a high firing temperature.
Shards from very similar bowls have been excavated in Yunhe County, southern Zhejiang, which was an area with numerous kiln sites producing Longquan celadon.
