A fine Longquan stembowl with incised and moulded design – Yuan Dynasty

The waisted stem is encircled by two raised fillets and supporting a bowl with rounded sides flaring at the rim. The “bowl” is decorated with incised flowers/fruits on the inside walls and the lower part of the outside. The well has a moulded chrysanthemum spray. It is covered overall in a lustrous olive-green glaze.

 

Period: Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368)

Size: Diameter 13.5 cm, height 10.5 cm

Condition: Very good condition, light wear and minor firing flaws, no cracks or repairs found with UV-light.

Two Longquan stembowls were excavated from the hoard at the Tuchengzi city, Inner Mongolia. They are illustrated in Complete Collection of Ceramic Art unearthed in China – Inner Mongolia, Zhang Bai, Science Press, Bejing, 2007, Plate 135, 136.
