A Thai persimmon-shaped covered box with carved design – Sawankhalok kilns, 14th-16th Century
This stoneware lidded box is shaped like a persimmon fruit and carved with a vine scroll pattern. It is covered in a transparent glaze and the decoration is highlighted with a brown glaze. The inside is covered in a light green glaze, whereas the footring and the base are unglazed. Produced in Sukhothai province, Thailand.
Period: 14th-16th Century
Size: Dia 10.1 cm, height 8.5 cm
Condition: Good condition with age related wear, two small chips to the rim of the body, minor chips to the top of the lid.
