A white Ding jar and cover – Song Dynasty
Thinly potted with an ovoid body rising from a short spreading foot to an angled shoulder and broad short straight neck. The tapering stepped cover surmounted by a small leaf-shaped knop. It is covered overall with a transparent ivory glaze, except for the base and the rims.
Period: Song dynasty (960-1279)
Size: Height 9.5 cm
Condition: Very good condition, minor wear and firing flaws, Areas of glaze pull and surface flaws original to the firing, repaired chip to the inside of the cover, minor nibble to the rim, no cracks or repairs found under UV-light.
Provenance: From a Swiss private collection, bought from Warren E. Cox & Associates in May 1973 (receipt available).
